Fuel element with solid polymeric electrolyte, intended for the power supplies of powerful mobile power installations
In a stage of patentingElectronicsThe method of production the diminutive fuel cell with the solid polymeric electrolyte was developed. The feature of this method is an usage of the metal porous electrodes with size of pore from 5 micron to 30 micron and thickness 15 -20 micron on the solid substrate with the follow molded electrodes into both sides of the film of solid polymeric electrolyte. This provides the strength of connection between electrodes and the film of the polymeric electrolyte. It allows to do without mechanical clamp of layers into the fuel cell.
The diminutive fuel cells with solid electrolyte can work with the power 0.01-0.1 W and the general current from 0.5 to 50 ma if size of the pore in the netting electrode is less than 5 – 10 micron. It is caused by that the general current into the pore must go a path to border of metallic electrode on surface of polymeric electrolyte. Therefore the big size of pore can dramatically reduce the current because very much ohm losses. For example, to make the netting metal electrode with size of pore 25 micron is needed the metal threads with size 15 -20 micron. Such small thickness of threads makes difficult and expansive the making of the netting electrode. This causes difficulties for its practical usage essentially in mass production. Besides for the diminutive fuel cell isn’t wished traditional method of connection between the netting metal electrode and the films of the polymeric electrolyte based on the mechanical clamp.
